Robot components explained

A robot’s skeleton (housings, frames, shafts, mounts) is mostly machined and sets stiffness, joint alignment and backlash; ISO 8373 calls it a chain of links and joints. Motors, encoders and electronics are bought in; we machine the robotics components around them. See the guide to the main parts of a robot.

About Us
About Us Section Image

RobotCNCParts, a division of DEK, machines the robotic components your engineers design, for prototypes, engineering builds, pilot runs and low-volume repeat production; motors, reducers, sensors and electronics come from their makers.

Engineering Review Icon

Engineering Review

We review your CAD at quoting for lightweighting, fit and manufacturability, and flag the features that drive cost.

One Process Icon

One Process

Prototypes, engineering builds, pilot runs and low-volume repeat batches run on the same drawing and inspection plan.

Documented Fits Icon

Documented Fits

Bearing, shaft and joint fits checked by CMM on fit-critical features, with material traceability where needed.

Revision Marking Icon

Revision Marking

Prototype revisions identified by laser marking, so every machined part carries its drawing revision and joint ID.

FAQs

Robotic components FAQs

Send your CAD model, 2D drawing, material, quantity and critical tolerances; an engineer reviews DFM before quoting.

What are the main components of a robot?
A base or chassis, links, joints driven by actuators (motor, reducer and encoder), an end effector, sensors and a controller. We machine the mechanical parts: housings, frames, reducer components, shafts and mounts.
Do you sell off-the-shelf robot components?
No. We machine custom robotic components to your drawing, from prototypes to low-volume repeat production.
What is the minimum order quantity?
There is no minimum for prototype orders. Production batch sizes are quoted per part.
What tolerances can you hold on robot parts?
Down to ±0.005 to 0.01 mm on critical features such as bearing bores and shaft journals, checked by CMM against your GD&T callouts.
Which files do I need for a quote?
A 3D CAD model plus a 2D drawing with tolerances, material and finish.
Can you go from prototype to production?
Yes: prototypes, engineering builds, pilot runs and low-volume repeat production with the same process and inspection plan.
